Our Background

The history of the Hodge Group ("Hodge") dates to 2004, although its predecessors, Urbus Management Limited and Urbus Properties Limited, have deeper roots. Before the formation of Hodge, the company's principals were involved in Urbus Management Limited, which served as the corporate and property manager for Urbus Properties Limited, a company listed on the NZX. In 2004, the management rights were sold to ING (NZ) Ltd, and in 2005, Urbus Properties was successfully acquired by the ING Property Trust, now known as Argosy.

The origins of Urbus Properties and Urbus Management can be traced back to 1986 when John Hodge initiated the venture under the name of Waltus Investments Limited. Waltus Investments rapidly grew to become one of New Zealand's prominent property investment syndicators, managing a portfolio of over $700 million worth of commercial properties.

In July 2003, Urbus Properties made its debut on the NZX and quickly gained prominence, entering the NZX top 50. Both John and Shayne Hodge served as directors of Urbus Properties Limited.

The Hodge family has a long-standing history in the property sector, dating back to the 1940s when John's father began his career with Dunedin construction firm W L Tyrie. Over the years, the family expanded its involvement in property, with John assuming leadership in 1973 and gradually diversifying the family's business interests. In 2015, Shayne acquired the remaining family interest.

Today, leveraging its extensive investment and management expertise, Hodge focuses on financing, investing in, and managing commercial properties and businesses across New Zealand.
